I. Historical Evolution
(1) In 1980, CIT opened a major named business management for bachelor’s degree. Later, due to the loan from the World Bank, it changed to specialist education.
(2) Because the delegation by the Organization Department of Changzhou Municipal Party Committee, CIT opened a major named economic management which is for professional cadres, and recruited students for eight years (1981-1988).
(3) In 1983, CIT began to recruit business management students for specialist education, which is for ordinary students; in 1986, CIT opened a major named financial accounting; in 1988, CIT opened a major named industrial foreign trade; in 1995, CIT opened a major named marketing.
(4) In 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, CIT set up three undergraduate majors of business administration, marketing and international economics and trade, and began to recruit students in this year. Then, majors such as financial management, logistics management, e-commerce and hotel management in bachelor’s degree have been opened successively.
Ⅱ. School positioning
Adapting to the development of small and medium-sized cities industry and service industry, the School of Economics and Management relies on advanced manufacturing, modern service industry and strategic emerging industries in local small and medium-sized business management posts, adheres to social needs, and focuses on the cultivation of management talents for small and medium-sized enterprises with innovative and practical spirit. The school serves southern Jiangsu and the Yangtze River Delta for economy and social development, to deepen production and education, innovative entrepreneurial education, and combined with theoretical teaching, practical teaching, and innovative entrepreneurial education, which finally continuously improve the quality of application talents.
Ⅲ. Undergraduate majors, faculty and experimental training equipment and facilities
The School of Economics and Management is one of the largest colleges in CIT. It consists of five professional departments: the Department of Economics, the Department of Business Administration, the Department of Financial Management, the Department of Management Engineering, and the Department of Electronic Commerce. Undergraduate has 9 majors including international economy and trade, business administration, financial management, logistics management, and e-commerce. Among them, logistics management is a national first-class undergraduate major construction site, business administration is a school-level key major and a first-class undergraduate major construction site in Jiangsu Province, and international economics and trade, marketing and financial management are school-level characteristic majors.
The School of Economics and Management has a team of teachers with academic experience and professional titles matched, strong professional ability and vitality. Among them, 10 people have been selected into various types of talent engineering projects in Jiangsu Province such as 333 Project, Qinglan Project, etc... The full-time teaching staff contain 42 professors and associate professors, 36 doctors and 14 doctoral candidates. Also, there are more than 2,200 students, including international students.
The School of Economics and Management has a central laboratory, a scientific work ability training demonstration base of the Ministry of Education's scientific work ability improvement projects, and a key laboratory for Changzhou logistics equipment and technology research. The school has a practical teaching area of 1,377 square meters and has 454 sets of instruments and equipment. The total value of experimental instruments and equipment is nearly 6.3 million RMB, which can provide necessary experimental training for professional talents.
The teachers and students for the School of Economics and Management have won many honors such as national-level higher education outstanding teaching achievement award, first prizes for outstanding achievements in higher education in Jiangsu Province. They have performed outstandingly in students' innovation and entrepreneurship projects and academic competitions. Also, they have continuously achieved excellent awards such as the first prize of Jiangsu Province Outstanding Undergraduate Thesis, Jiangsu Province Internet University Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, Creating Youth Jiangsu Province University Students' Entrepreneurship Competition, E-commerce Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship Competition, National Mathematical Modeling Competition, etc. In 2019, Changzhou Xingjiang Creative Culture Design Co., Ltd., which belongs to student team called Zhiyi, won grand prize in the 9th National university Student Electronics Award. The student team from the major of international trade won the 2nd place in the 5th Oriental Fortune Cup National College Student Financial Elite Challenge. In addition, Team “Volunteer Group” and Team “Zhiyi” had excellent performance in social practice during summer holiday.
Ⅳ. Discipline Construction& Development
The School of Economics and Management has three first-level disciplines, namely Business Administration, Applied Economics, and Management Science and Engineering. Among them, Business Administration, as a school-level key discipline, has been approved as a key discipline in the “14th Five-Year Plan” of Jiangsu Province in 2021. The School of Economics and Management has formed a relatively complete disciplinary system and stable research directions, focusing on talent development and innovation and entrepreneurship management, smart logistics and intelligent manufacturing management, cultural tourism and leisure and ecological civilization management, digital finance and financial risk management and other disciplines. The school has many scientific research platforms. For example, relying on the Jiangsu University Cultural Creativity Collaborative Innovation Center, there is a cultural enterprise management collaborative innovation sub-center. Based on the Changzhou Grand Canal Cultural Belt Construction Research Institute, there is a Grand Canal Cultural Tourism Industry Integration Development Research. Center. Apart from that, there are Changzhou Academy of Social Sciences Data Science and Economic and Social Development Research Center, Changzhou Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Reform and Development Research Center, Changzhou Small and Medium Enterprise Research Institute, Changzhou Localization President Training Base, etc.
V. International exchanges and cooperation
CIT attaches great importance to international exchanges and cooperation. It has carried out substantive cooperation with well-known universities such as the United States, Canada, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Taiwan (China), and other countries and regions in teacher-student exchange visits, academic exchanges, and cooperative talent training. International students from Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, and other countries join CIT to study business administration, international economy and trade, logistics management and other majors. CIT tracks the advanced concepts and latest progress of international higher education, carries out professional construction, improves teachers and school-running level, and constantly highlights its school-running characteristics.
